Letting Art Continue at the Foot of the Great Wall
WA Museum’s 2026 Curated Retail Space Reopening
On January 10, 2026, in Beigou Village at the foot of the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall in Beijing’s Huairou District, a new chapter intertwining art, everyday life, and sustainability officially began. Thoughtfully developed by 2049 Investment Group, WA Museum inaugurated its 2026 curatorial retail space renewal under the theme Continuing Forward, alongside the opening of Sustainably Cute: A Themed Exhibition on Sustainable Living by artist Xi, Min. Together, the two initiatives present a more open, enduring, and people-centered approach to art—responding to contemporary reflections on happiness, cultural continuity, and meaningful living.
As part of the Great Wall International Cultural Village, Beigou Village provides fertile ground for the organic integration of art and daily life. Acting as a long-term “new villager,” 2049 Investment Group has been deeply engaged in rural revitalization practices, developing a series of locally rooted cultural destinations including the Brickyard Retreat, Sancheng Hotel, Beiganlan, and WA Museum. Among them, WA Museum has been cultivated as a cultural and spiritual landmark of the village—serving as a platform for artistic exploration and sustained cultural growth within a rural context.
Guided by the philosophy of fostering continuous dialogue between space and the public, the ground floor of WA Museum has been transformed into an open and inclusive curatorial retail and public exchange space. The inaugural program brings together art and design brands such as NO2LAND, IGOR’S CATS, Gao, Xiaowu, Traveller Magazine, NOOSA:D, and Gaolianghe Color Painting Factory, alongside locally inspired creations including Huairou Gifts, Brickyard | Local Vistas, and intangible cultural heritage–based design products. Here, art, design, and craftsmanship gently merge into village life, travel, and everyday experience. Visitors are invited not only to view and engage with art, but also to take it home—through a wide range of thoughtfully curated objects, from fine art prints and home décor to aromatherapy items, cushions, thermos bottles, puzzles, and refrigerator magnets, with prices accessible to a broad audience.

The second floor serves as WA Museum’s core exhibition space and currently presents Lovely As Usual - Sustainable Lifestyle and Creation, a solo exhibition by artist Xi, Min. Drawing from discarded everyday materials, the artist transforms overlooked objects into gentle and whimsical works, reawakening sensitivity toward resources, emotions, and the hidden value embedded in daily life. Through handcraft and quiet humor, the exhibition invites visitors to reconsider sustainability not as sacrifice, but as warmth, care, and continued attention. Looking ahead, WA Museum will continue to invite artists to build long-term cultural dialogues with Beigou Village and the Great Wall landscape.
The third floor has evolved into a distinctive public terrace, offering panoramic views, coffee, and immersive art installations. By guiding the gaze toward the Great Wall, surrounding mountains, and natural scenery, the space has become a spiritual vantage point of the Beigou Village—where art, landscape, and everyday pauses converge. Future plans include rotating international cultural programs and a permanent exhibition dedicated to glazed tile heritage, drawing from the Brickyard’s identity as one of China’s first rural heritage hotels. With Mutianyu attracting a large number of international visitors, WA Museum is positioned as a meaningful platform for sharing Chinese culture with a global audience.
For WA Museum, Lovely As Usual - Sustainable Lifestyle and Creation is not an abstract concept, but an understanding shaped through long-term practice. In an era of accelerating change, art and culture generate lasting value only when they are woven into daily life—used, revisited, and remembered. Rooted in the village and open to the world, WA Museum will continue collaborating with artists, brands, and the public to explore how art and life can grow together sustainably, allowing culture to remain an active, everyday creative force.
WA Museum is open daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Sunday.
The public is warmly invited to visit Beigou Village and experience this living intersection of art and life at the foot of the Great Wall.
